Purefoy, Strong Going to Mars with John Carter

Mark Strong, demonstrating his godlike status.
ComingSoon says that James Purefoy and Mark Strong have joined the cast of “John Carter of Mars,” the adaptation of Edgar (Tarzan) Rice Burroughs’s early 20th c. sci-fi adventure novel. Purefoy and Strong will join Taylor Kitsch, who’s playing the title role, Lynn Collins, the standard object of romance, and Thomas Haden Church, who is playing a bad guy. Willem DaFoe, Samantha Morton, Dominic West, and Polly Walker are also in the cast.
The film, is about a Civil War veteran (Kitsch) who finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars, where he becomes embroiled with the planet’s warring people.
Purefoy plays “Kantos Kan, the captain of the Xavarian, the kingdom of Helium’s grand warship. Strong is Matai Shang, the ruler of the Thems with godlike status.”
Love the character names. Purefoy has been on TV’s “The Philanthopist” and has “Solomon Kane” coming out soon. Strong will soon be seen in “Young Victoria” and “Sherlock Holmes,” and next year will be in “Kick-Ass” and “Robin Hood.”
