Darren Aronofsky’s new film Black Swan is set to arrive in select US cinemas on December 1st, with the release expanding from there. Prior to this, the film’s world premiere will open the 67th Venice Film Festival on September 1st.

A psychological thriller set in the world of New York City ballet, Black Swan stars Natalie Portman as Nina, a featured dancer who finds herself locked in a web of competitive intrigue with a new rival at the company (Mila Kunis). Black Swan takes a thrilling and at times terrifying journey through the psyche of a young ballerina whose starring role as the duplicitous swan queen turns out to be a part for which she becomes frighteningly perfect.

Not much has been publicly revealed about Black Swan yet (apart from some pieces of decidedly haunting imagery, one of which you can see above). The brief synopsis sounds like it will make for a brilliantly atmospheric film though, and the released pictures certainly help. Hopefully it will be another great release in Aronofsky’s fantastic, eclectic filmography. It’s great how he tackles different styles with each of his films, and I’m a huge fan of The Fountain and The Wrestler.

Oh, and Clint Mansell is expectedly writing the film’s score. Which is always good to hear.
