‘Heavy Rain’ Movie Likely On Way

Heavy Rain is a video game which was recently released on the Playstation 3. It’s a fantastic game, completely different from the usual first-person shooter fare, and has been described as blurring the lines between movies and gaming.

This is due to the style of gameplay, with the action happening on screen like a film, with the player interacting at various different times to change the outcome of a scene. I hate to use the term but ‘interactive movie’ is the easiest way to describe Heavy Rain.

And this ‘interactive movie’ could soon become just a ‘movie’. Joystiq reports how New Line Cinema acquired the movie rights to the game way back in May 2006, days after the first trailer of the game was shown at the annual E3 showcase for the gaming industry.

This, of course, doesn’t mean that a Heavy Rain movie is guaranteed, and New Line’s new role as a subsidiary of Warner Bros could have already killed this off. But there’s a definite possibility that David Cage’s opus could make a move to the media it clearly aspires and makes homage to.
